POS Recommendations to Customers, Part 3
Quote Request
First thing I suggest you do is download Cash Register Express and get a feel for it since the POS
software is the most important part to a computerized register.
Complete systems run from $1000-$3000. It all depends on the type of business you run. For example,
you're not sure of the type of scanner you want. We have scanners that start at $55. But for $55
you're getting a primitive technology scanner that you have to press up against the barcode to get a
read. For $300 you get a multi-line laser scanner that you just need to pass the item through for a
split-second read.

Black Cash Drawer
Also, the Indiana SLD1616 is a printer driven cash drawer. There is no way to connect it to the
computer by itself. You mentioned you probably won't be printing receipts from this office
computer so the receipt printer is not neccessary. If you still want to go with this cash drawer,
you will have to open it by turning the key.
If you want a cash drawer to pop open when the sale is complete, but not connect it to a receipt printer,
you can go with a serial port cash drawer. Would you like me to find you a similar cash drawer in serial?
I'm not sure if the SLD1616 comes in serial but I will check on Monday.
The SPT 1550 can take 2 AAA batteries but you'll want to use the rechargeable NIMH battery that comes
with the cradle. It can recharge in under 3 hours while sitting on the recharge/communications cradle.
This brings up another point: The cradle is serial. This means that if the cradle and a serial cash
drawer are on that same office computer, you'll need 2 serial ports. Of course, you can put the
cradle on any of the workstations as long as they have a serial port.
Metrologic Scanner
Last time you got a MS9520 KB Wedge. The same scanner now is $164. Or you can get the 9540
which has a button on top to activate the scanner (can also be turned off) for $169.
Last time you got an above counter Indiana SLD1616 with 2 media slots. The drawer is $143. Or you can
get a MMF Val-uline with the same dimensions and 2 media slots for $89 including the printer
interface cable.
The Symbol SPT1550 with hotsync communication and recharge cradle is $503. Pocket Inventory is another
$150 and Pocket Register (portable invoicing) is another $150.
In Counter Scanner
You already have a serial scanner, right? So, what you need is a second or backup serial cable in case
the other one goes bad? Please clarify. Thank you.
