What is a PC-based cash register?

A PC-based cash register runs off of a computer. At each POS station you need a PC. All the peripherals (receipt printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner, etc.) plug into the back of the computer. You can use a normal computer monitor for the application. The most important part of the register is the software. It is the software that controls inventory, rings up sales, and tells the hardware what to do.

a complete POS system What about those "All-in-ones" registers from IBM, NCR, Posiflex?

We at International Point of Sale make a conscious effort not to sell those machines as they are slower and more expensive. These machines, such as the IBM SurePOS start out on the drawing board 4-5 years before their release. By the time they actually hit the market, their processor speed is usually 1/5 of the speed of a new computer. Plus, when it's an "all-in-one" unit, if one piece malfunctions, you have to send the whole machine back so you're without a register for some time. This can be devastating to a small business. With a component based POS system, if one piece goes bad, you just swap that one out but you can still use your register. We combine the best POS peripherals to get you the best register.

How does Cash Register Express compare with Quickbooks POS?

We do not like to bad-mouth our competitors but would be doing a disservice if we didn't point you to the following customer reviews on CNET.com.
Please read this.

Screen Shot from Cash Register Express 2003 Do I get any free support with a purchase of Cash Register Express?

You get three months of FREE technical support when you buy a license of CRE. This includes any upgrades that come out during that time. You can reach tech support through phone, email, instant message and fax.

How much is a year of support and upgrades for Cash Register Express?

You can buy one year of support and upgrades for $250. Multi-user support is $400. Support contracts include unlimited phone, email, fax, and instant message help.

I have a tech support contract for CRE. What are their contact numbers?

The easiest way to get helped quick is through AOL Instant Messenger. This is a popular free program and allows you to get an instant answer without having to wait on the line. Tech support has two screen names: posnow and posnow2. If you prefer to speak to someone on the phone, call 845-267-3549. Email queries can be sent to
tech@internationalpointofsale.com and fax your questions to 845-267-3550.

Photo of Epson TM-T88III What is the difference between a dot-matrix and thermal printer?

The difference lies mainly in speed and noise. Dot-matrix technology prints using a print head that hits the paper directly with a ribbon. You will hear it. A popular dot-matrix printer is the
Epson TM-U200. You will need to replace the ribbons every once in a while. Thermal printers print using heat so do not need ribbons. The result is extremely quiet and lightning fast printing. The paper is a bit more expensive but you don't have to buy ribbons. Our favorite thermal printer is the Epson TM-T88III.

What type of stores can benefit from Cash Register Express?
Literally any store that wants to have better control of it's inventory, track profits, customers, and reduce the checkout time. Our customer base includes liquor, convenience, clothing stores and more. Whatever you sell, CRE can work for you!

Does Cash Register Express accept food stamps as a method of payment?
Yes

How many years has Cash Register Express been around?
Cash Register Express has been saving time and money for thousands of businesses for over 11 years.

What about products with no barcodes?
This is not a problem with CRE. There are several ways to sell your items that do not come with manufacturers' barcode. 1) You can print your own barcodes using Barcode Express, 2) You can just enter an easy to remember item number or description instead of scanning a barcode, just like they do in the supermarkets for produce, or 3) You can utilize CRE's touchscreen lookup feature. This allows you to create a button on the main invoice screen that represents the item without a barcode. You may then click the button with a mouse or even easier, touch it (if you have a touchscreen, that is).

Can I place an order outside of the USA?
International Point of Sale will ship to anywhere in the world. Please call for shipping prices.
